Ajoy Moitra

Ajoy Moitra, now working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Kushtia Government Mahila College, inherits a pretty long tradition of English language teaching in Bangladesh.
Born on 3rd July in 1971 in a aristocratic family, he is the fourth child of his parents. His father who had an illustrious career in English teaching at Kushtia Zilla School finally joined Government College as a teacher in English and worked at different state-run colleges in the country. His transferable job gave Ajoy Moitra an opportunity to receive his early education at different institutions of different places in the country. Ajoy Moitra majored in English Language and Literature at B.L. College, Khulna under Rajshahi University in 1990 and obtained his Master’s degree in the same course from Rajshahi University in 1991. In 1995, he started his career as a teacher at CODA (College of Development Alternative) in Dhaka. Later he worked at short intervals in different non-government colleges. In 1999, he joined BCS (education cadre) and worked at different government colleges across the country until his present post at Kushtia Government College. Ajoy Moitra also joined M.Phil leading to Ph.D course at IBS (Institute of Bangladesh Studies) at Rajshahi in 2006. His area of interest is postcolonial literature. Since 2010, he has been working as an advisor editor in a much circulated English weekly, The Kushtia Times. He is also involved with local NGOs working for the promotion of human rights. His area of interest also includes development projects. Recently he developed an interest in juvenile’s language teaching pedagogy. He tries his hand at translation works. In future, he is planning to take up creative writing.
