The Mohini Mill located in Kushtia of Bangladesh made a unique contribution to the history of textile industry in undivided India. Although it has been got destruction now due to vicarious political conspiracy in the course of time, it is time to think about anew establishment on it. It will also be fruitful if any new initiative is taken in present context like Textile University.
Speakers stated in such way in a commemoration meeting organised on the occasion of the 56th death anniversary of Devi Prasad Chakraborty Kanubabu, the last proprietor of Mohini Mill.
The event was held at the ground adjacent to Mohini Mill Auditorium on Sunday night.
Devi Prasad Chakraborty Kanu Babu Smriti Parishad organised the programme.

They said Mohini Mohan Chakraborty established this mill was one of the few textile industries in the history of the subcontinent during the British rule. In East Bengal, on the other hand, the mill was at a unique height because it was the only industry in the whole of Bengal at the then time. After the death of Mohini Mohan, his grandson Devi Prasad came in charge of this mill in 1907.
Kushtia Sadar Upazila Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata was present as chief guest at the function presided over by president of Devi Prasad Chakraborty Smriti Parishad Niloy Kumar Sarkar.
Advocate Lalim Haque, president of Bodhoday was chief discussant.
General Secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad Kushtia District unit Shamsur Rahmsan Babu, eminent writer and researcher, Chairman of Sammilita Samajik Jote Dr. Amanur Aman, Barrister Gaurab Chaki, Mohammad Ali, Dr. Mofazzal Haque was present as special guest.
The Mohin mill was a prestige for whole Bengal. They said large scale of success of the mill came with the managing of Kanubabu.
Referring to the various public works of Kanubabu, they said that he was a great worker-friendly industrial entrepreneur. He used to pay 6 bonuses a year to the workers of the mill. This was unprecedented that even did not happen in Europe itself at that time, the cradle of the industrial revolution.
The speakers urged to renovate the thinking for the mill which is still exist. It is necessary to build up different things like textile university on the field of the mill.
The chief guest said he will take step to rescue and renovate the Kanu Babu's house from police outpost and the issue of placing Kanubabu's sculpture there was said to be actively considered.
