Law enforcement agencies have arrested the wife of former Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain Syeda Monalisa late Sunday night. She is also the central vice-president of Jubo League.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station Sheikh Mezbah Uddin confirmed the matter stating that she was taken into custody from her residence on Eskaton Road in Dhaka.
OC went on that Monalisa is accused in three cases in Meherpur including allegations of attacks on student protesters during the anti-discrimination movement on August 5.
SERIES DETENTION OF FARHAD FAMILY MEMBERS
The arrest of Monalisa follows a series of detentions of ex Minister Farhad’s family linked to the same movement.
In December last year, Farhad Hossain’s elder sister, Shamim Ara Hira, 50 and her husband, Abdus Samad Babul Biswas, 55, were arrested in the Bashundhara area in connection with similar charges.
Earlier, on September 14, last year, Farhad Hossain himself was arrested from his Eskaton house. He had been accused of ordering the firing on student protesters during the anti-discrimination movement on August 5.
Farhad Hossain first became a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Meherpur-1 constituency in the 2014 general elections. He was re-elected in 2018 and appointed as the State Minister for Public Administration. After securing a third consecutive victory in the 2024 elections, he was promoted to a full minister in the same ministry.
The law enforcers, however, did not come with further details about Monalisa’s arrest, but investigations are ongoing, sources said.
