Twenty-six Bangladeshi nationals, living illegally in India, were handed over by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to the Maheshpur Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (58 BGB) during a flag meeting in Chuadanga.
This information was provided in a press release signed by Abu Hanif Md. Sihanuk, Deputy Commander and Additional Director of the 58 BGB Maheshpur Battalion, on Wednesday night.
According to the press release, the handover took place at the zero line near the main pillar 64 of the Benipur border in the Simanto Union of Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga, through a flag meeting at the level of company commanders of BGB and BSF on Wednesday afternoon.
Among the repatriated Bangladeshis, 13 are children. Of the remaining 13, seven are men and six are women. They are residents of Kurigram and Joypurhat districts.
They had illegally entered India at different times and had been living in the Haryana State for the past 14 years.
The press release also stated that on Tuesday, BSF Battalion 32 informed Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) that 26 Bangladeshi nationals, who had been living illegally in India, had been handed over to the BSF by Haryana Police. At the same time, BGB was requested to take them back along with their whereabouts.
After verification, BGB confirmed the identities of all 26 individuals.
On Wednesday night, they were handed over to Jibannagar police station through a General Diary (GD) entry.
The repatriated individuals are Mohammad Mokbul Hossain, 45 of Baroil village under Phulbari upazila of Kurigram and his wife Afsia Begum, 40, their eldest daughter Mosammat Mariam, 25 and four other daughters aged 17, 11, 8, and 6. Mohammad Apel Mamun, 40 of the same village and his two sons aged 2 and 1. Mohammad Abul Kalam, 45 of Atiabari village under the same upazila, his elder son Mohammad Atikul Islam,18 and younger son aged 7. Mohammad Raju Mia, 38 of Kabirervita village, his wife Rizia Begum, 37, and their three daughters aged 10, 7, and 5. Lipi Akhter 19, daughter of Hasan Nur, and her 3-year-old daughter. Lavlu Haque, 45 of Balatari village, his wife Nur Nahar Begum, 44, their elder daughter Lovely Khatun, 22, another daughter aged 11, and a 2-year-old grandchild. Md. Abdus Samad 25 of Darsa village under Khetlal upazila in Joypurhat district.
The families of the 26 individuals have been informed to receive them, and they will be kept at Jibannagar Police Station until their relatives arrive, said Chuadanga’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations), Konak Kumar Das.
