The Lalon Memorial Festival, traditionally known as Dol Purnima Utsab will conclude in a single day due to Ramadan. The festival is usually celebrated over three days held at Lalon Shrine in Kushtia’s Cheuria.
Such a decision was taken at a preparatory meeting for the Lalon Memorial Festival 2025 held on Wednesday (March 5) in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC).
In the meeting, it was decided that the festival, usually organized by Lalon Academy, will be reduced to a single day instead of the usual three-day celebration due to Ramadan.
The festival generally features discussions, cultural programmes and a Baul fair. However, this year, these events will not take place.
As per the meeting’s decision, on March 13, Lalon Academy will arrange an evening and night time Balya Seva (offerings to Baul devotees and Fakirs). The following day, on March 14, a Purna Seva (complete service) will be provided to the Khilafat-holding Baul Fakirs at noon.
In the chair of DC Kushtia Twofiqur Rahman, the meeting was conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Jahangir Alam. Among the speakers were Kushtia District BNP President Kutub Uddin Ahmed, Baul Firoz Sai, Razzak Sai, Shafi Sai, and Kushtia Journalists’ Union President Abdur Razzak Bacchu.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Abdul Wadud, Local Government Department Deputy Director Md. Mizanur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Partha Pratim Shil, Additional Superintendent of Police Faisal Mahmud Dipu, along with other government officials and representatives from civil society.
