Acting Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tarique Rahman has directed his party leaders concerned to extend support to the seven-year-old girl of Chaugachha in Jashore, who was subjected to brutal sexual violence.
On his directive, BNP’s Secretary for Health Affairs and Central Coordinator of the Women and Child Abuse Support Cell Dr. Rafiqul Islam visited Jashore to see the condition of the child. On Monday Dr, Rafiqul visited at Jashore General Hospital where the girl is undergoing treatment.
Anindya Islam Amit, Acting Organizing Secretary of BNP’s Khulna Division accompanied him.
Dr. Rafiqul who is also a physician, inquired about the medical progress, spoke with child’s mother, and provided financial assistance on behalf of the Tarique Rahman.
Leaders of the district BNP and the Jashore chapter of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) were also present during period.
Later, speaking to the media Dr. Rafiqul Islam called for a prompt and impartial investigation into the incident and demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrator.
The child was reportedly raped on Wednesday near her home in Chaugachha by a neighbour.
She was admitted to Jashore General Hospital that night in a critical, bloodied state. Due to excessive bleeding, doctors performed emergency surgery the same night.
After the incident, the victim’s mother filed a complaint with the police. The accused, 55-year-old Mizanur Rahman, was arrested. He was presented before the court on Thursday afternoon, where the judge ordered him to be sent to jail.
Dr. Hossain Safayet, Superintendent of Jashore General Hospital, said the child was brought in a critical condition. Surgery was performed on her injured area, and she is currently under observation. However, she is now out of danger, and her condition is gradually improving day by day.
Officer-in-Charge of Chaugachha Police Station, Anwar Hossain, said that initial tests found signs of rape in the child’s body.
Evidence has been collected, and the full facts will be known once the report is received.
