Two people were killed in a head-on collision of truck and CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kushtia and at least three others injured.
The accident occurred at Ranakharia on the Kushtia-Pabna highway around 9:am on Friday. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Highway Police, Syed Al Mamun, confirmed the incident.
According to police, a speeding stone-laden truck from Panchgarh district lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming auto-rickshaw near the Ranakharia-Ghoramara area of the highway.
Among the deceased, one has been identified as Tania Akter, 32, wife of Jahangir Alam from Arpara village in Kushtia Sadar Upazila. The other victim, a man around 50 years old, remains unidentified.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Jaydeb Kumar Sarkar of Kushtia Chourhash Highway Police Station stated that the accident occurred after the truck’s right tire burst, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the auto-rickshaw.
The injured victims have been rescued and taken to Kushtia general hospital.
Meanwhile, the truck driver fled the scene following the accident.
